[전문] 반기문 제8대 유엔 사무총장의 유엔세계식량계획WFP 노벨 평화상 수상 축하 서한

친애하는 비즐리 사무총장님께,

우선 100여 곳이 넘는 단체와 200여 명의 개인 후보 속에서 지난 10월 9일, 유엔세계식량계획(WFP)이 노벨 평화상의 101번째 수상자로 선정된 이 특별한 소식에 제 진심 어린 축하를 전합니다.

제8대 유엔 사무총장으로서 노벨 위원회가 WFP 직원들의 뛰어난 계획과 활동들을 중요하다고 인정했다는 것에 큰 자부심을 느꼈습니다.

더 중요한 것은 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)이 초래한 기후·공중보건·경제적 악영향으로 전 세계, 그중에서도 취약한 계층들이 특히 더 심각한 가난과 식량 부족에 시달리는 상황에서 WFP의 구성원들과 활동들은 모든 인정을 받을 자격이 있다고 생각합니다. 그러므로 사무총장님의 리더십에 대해 제 개인적인 감사 인사를 드리는 한편, WFP의 모든 직원에게도 저의 축하를 전해주시기 바랍니다.

각국 정부에 지속가능한 농업, 산림녹화, 삼림파괴 방지 등 녹색성장 분야를 지원하는 글로벌녹색성장연구소(Global Green Growth Institute, GGGI)의 이사회 의장 겸 대표로서, 저는 최근 GGGI 회원국인 요르단이 WFP와 산림복원 협력을 논의 중이라는 소식을 접하고 매우 기뻤습니다. GGGI는 녹색기후기금(GCF), 국제농업개발기금(IFAD), 세계혼농임업센터(ICRAF), 노르웨이 국제산림기후이니셔티브(NICFI)를 비롯해 수많은 정부 및 기관, 단체와 제휴를 맺고 있으며, GGGI와 WFP의 협력이 UN 지속가능개발목표 달성으로 가는 새로운 힘이 되기를 바랍니다.

다시 한번 WFP의 노벨평화상 수상을 축하드리며 배고픈 이들을 위한 WFP의 노력과 지원에 감사드립니다. 또 WFP의 건강하고 밝은 미래를 기원합니다.

Dear Executive Director Beasley,

I am writing to extend my warmest congratulations on this very special occasion of the World Food Programme (WFP) being declared on October 9 as the 101st awardee of the Nobel Peace Prize, among more than 100 organizations and more than 200 individuals.

As a former United Nations Secretary-General, it gave me great pride to learn of the Nobel Committee's decision to recognize the very important work planned and executed by the outstanding members and staff of the WFP.

More importantly, at this juncture when the entire global community is roiled by the devastating environmental, public health and economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, all of which exacerbate the poverty and food security conditions-particularly for the most vulnerable groups and communities- the WFP deserves every bit of the recognition and more. Therefore, you have my personal thanks for your leadership as Executive Director; please convey my thanks and appreciation to all staff members of the WFP.

As the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), which supports governments in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, deforestation and other areas of green growth, I was very pleased to recently learn of ongoing GGGI-WFP discussions to explore reforestation collaboration in Jordan, a GGGI Member. GGGI has partnered with many partners, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), Norway International Climate & Forest Initiative (NICFI), and numerous governments and other organizations, and I hope GGGI-WFP collaboration can be another source of growing contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Once again, I extend my sincere congratulations on the Nobel Peace Prize and my appreciations for your efforts for the victims of hunger in the world, and I send my best wishes for continued good health and a bright future of the WFP.
