[전문] 김현수 농림축산식품부 장관의 유엔세계식량계획WFP 노벨평화상 수상 축하 서한
데이비드 비즐리 WFP 사무총장님께,
사무총장님, 먼저 WFP가 2020년 101번째 노벨평화상 수상 기관으로 선정된 것을 진심으로 축하드립니다.
세계 곳곳의 가장 상황이 어렵고 복잡한 지역에서 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)과 기아에 맞서 싸운 사무총장님과 WFP 직원 모두의 큰 노력과 희생에 경의를 표합니다. 이번 노벨평화상 수상이 인류의 평화를 지키고 기아 근절을 위해 최전방에서 힘쓰는 WFP 직원들의 활동에 대한 숭고한 평가로 자리 잡기를 기원합니다.
1963년 이후 반세기 이상 대한민국 정부와 WFP는 굳건한 협력 관계를 유지했습니다. 한때 식량 원조를 받던 한국은 이제 개발도상국의 모범적 사례이자 WFP의 주요 공여국이 됐습니다. 특히 농림축산식품부는 WFP의 사업 현장에서 빈곤과 굶주림을 끝내기 위해 WFP와 함께 식량을 지원하면서 국제사회에서 책임 있는 역할을 할 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있습니다.
한국은 코로나19 팬데믹 국면에서 배고픔과 기아 문제가 갈등과 전쟁의 무기로 악용되는 것을 막기 위한 WFP의 노력을 전적으로 지지합니다. "코로나19 백신이 개발되기 전까지 혼돈에 대항할 최고의 백신은 식량"이라는 사무총장님의 발언을 인용하면서, 농림부는 제로 헝거 달성을 위해 WFP와 계속 협력할 것입니다.
사무총장님과 WFP 직원들의 건강과 행복, 지속적인 성공을 기원합니다.

Excellency,
I truly congratulate the United Nations World Food Programme on the prestigious honor of the 101st winner of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
I would like to pay tribute to your Excellency and WFP staff for the tremendous efforts and sacrifice in fighting against the pandemic and hunger in the most difficult, complex places in the world. I sincerely hope that the awarding of this Prize will be a noble recognition of the work of WFP staff who are working on the front lines to safeguard peace for humanity and eradicate hunger.
For more than half a century since 1963, the Korean Government and the World Food Programme have maintained a strong partnership. Korea, once a recipient of food assistance, has now become an aid donor serving as an exemplary case for developing countries. Especially, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Korea is doing all we can to play a responsible role in the international community by carrying out food assistance projects with the World Food Programme to end poverty and hunger in developing countries.
In the face of the pandemic, Korea fully supports the World Food Programme's endeavour to stop hunger from being used as a weapon of war and conflicts. Citing your statement, "Until the day we have a medical vaccine, food is the best vaccine against chaos, " we will continue to work with your Excellency and the World Food Programme in achieving Zero Hunger.
