[전문] 이인영 통일부 장관의 유엔세계식량계획WFP 노벨평화상 수상 축하 서한
친애하는 비즐리 사무총장님께,
먼저 WFP의 2020년도 노벨평화상 선정을 축하드립니다. 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 전 세계가 이동이 통제됐음에도 불구하고, WFP가 긴급 구호 현장에서 이뤄낸 결정적 역할과 성과가 세상에 알려지게 된 것을 대단히 기쁘게 생각합니다.
노르웨이 노벨위원회와 마찬가지로, 대한민국 통일부도 코로나19 백신이 개발·상용화되기 전까지는 "식량이 혼돈에 맞서는 최고의 백신"이라는 부분에 깊이 공감합니다. 코로나19로 고통받는 사람들이 많아지고, 심각한 식량 위기를 겪는 사람들이 지난해보다 1억 3500만 명 더 늘어날 것으로 전망되면서 WFP의 역할은 갈수록 중요해지고 있습니다.
북한의 영유아와 여성에 대한 WFP의 인도적 지원도 그렇습니다. 통일부와 WFP 공동의 가치와 인식을 기반으로 두 기관은 25년 동안 긴밀한 협력 관계를 유지했습니다. 통일부는 앞으로도 WFP의 북한 사업에 관심을 두고 적극적으로 지원할 겁니다.
기아 퇴치와 북한의 영양 개선을 위해 최선을 다한 WFP에 진심으로 감사를 전합니다. 다시 한번 노벨평화상 수상을 축하드립니다. WFP가 우리에게 보여준 연대와 협력은, 평화의 시대를 염원하는 모든 사람에게 큰 희망이 될 것입니다.

Dear Executive Director Beasley
I would like to congratulate the World Food Programme for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for 2020. I am immensely pleased that the WFP's crucial role and achievements of emergency relief activities, which are more enthusiastic than ever before, are known to the world, despite the global lock down amid the coronavirus pandemic.
As with the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea also profoundly empathize with the WFP's message that "food is the best vaccine against chaos" before the vaccine for the virus is developed and commercialized. WFP's role is increasingly important as many people suffer from the COVID-19, and the number of people dying from hunger increased to 135 million, the highest record in recent years.
The WFP's humanitarian assistance to the North Korean children and women is not a different story. Under our shared value and a awareness, the WFP and the Ministry of Unification have maintained a close partnership for 25 years. We will continue to actively support and have interests in your organization's humanitarian projects for North Korea.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you and your organization for your best efforts toward the journey of Zero Hunger and DPRK's nutrition improvement. Congratulations on awarding the noble peace prize once again. The solidarity and cooperation that the WFP has shown to us will become a great hope to everyone who desires an era of peace.
