Internship – Government Donor Relations

Seoul, WFP Korea Office

 

Duties and Accountabilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head of WFP Korea office, within delegated authority, an intern will mainly have the following areas of responsibility:

1.    Research, collect and analyze data on Official Development Assistance (ODA) public fundraising market in the Republic of Korea

a.    Perform background research on ROK ODA and ODA-related government offices

b.    Conduct analysis of ODA trends and assist in identifying new/potential funding sources

c.    Monitor the daily news related to government ODA and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK)

d.    Prepare weekly highlights that update other country offices about recent and upcoming activities of the Korea office 

e.    Update government-donor information

2.    Communicate with government officials, ambassadors etc. to arrange meetings and other events

3.    Assist in responding to basic queries from government and keep the government informed of key policy and operational issues of importance to the Programme

4.    Assist in preparing and drafting briefs, fundraising proposals, memorandums of understanding, note verbales, and other relevant documents in Korean and/or English

5.    Assist in following up on the progress of WFP-ROK joint projects

6.    Translate requested information in Korean and/or English

7.    Create requested PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) materials for manifold purposes in Korean and/or English

8.    Assist in developing social media campaigns and other PR activities to raise WFP’s visibility in Republic of Korea

9.    Perform other related tasks as required

 

 

Duration of the assignment

5 months starting from October 2014.

Intern will work full time (from 09.00 to 17.30 hrs, five days a week), for five months minimum.

 

Expected Outputs

The intern will be expected to show results in the form of high quality documentations/contents prepared for fundraising proposals, brochures and publications that support WFP’s efforts to raise awareness of hunger issues and its mission in the Republic of Korea. The research conducted by an intern will be used to support the strategic planning of public fundraising in the Republic of Korea. An intern will be also expected provide quality input for updating corporate and governmental donor database and market information, and liaise between WFP Seoul office and its partners.

 

Required qualifications/background

Native English speaker with advanced English language skills, in particular, writing skills;

Basic analytical ability;

Good news judgement - keen understanding of the kinds of news stories that matter to WFP;

Good computer skills- good command of PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) skill required;

Ability to communicate effectively and formally via e-mail/phone;

Ability to work in a team environment;

Ability to plan and organize work;

Resourcefulness; Initiative; Maturity; Tact; Advocacy skills;

Multitasking skills; time management skills;

 

Education: Undergraduate/graduate students (including those with foreign passports) with experience and advanced training/courses in one or more of the following disciplines: political science, international relations, international development/cooperation, development economics, public administration, public relations or other relevant field (ODA-related preferred)

Work experience is an advantage.
